Mathilde joined San Francisco Ballet as a principal dancer in 2013. Prior to that her career was centered totally at Paris Opéra Ballet where (as a soloist) she appeared in leading roles, including “Kitri” in Don Quichotte. Helgi Tomasson saw her in this production in 2006. I saw her first at the War Memorial in the title role of Tomasson’s Giselle. There was a story going around that Paris Opéra would not hire her as a principal soloist. Following her mesmerizing interpretation in Act One, I couldn’t help thinking – to hell with Paris Opéra Ballet, stay here in The City.
